The Department of Physical Sciences at Cameron University will host a middle school summer science academy for girls known as, "Aerospace Summer Academy: A Middle School Summer Science Academy".
The academy will be a five day residential academy where students will live at Cameron for the one week period.
The academy will be scheduled for July 17 - 22, 2016.
It will feature participation by 12 highly motivated and talented middle school girls who are Oklahoma residents.
The academy will introduce students to the physics of flight.
Students will engage in hands-on activities designed to introduce the concepts of aerospace engineering.
Some of the activities in the academy include:
+ Construction of a hot air balloon,
+ Construction of a water bottle rocket,
+ Design and construction of paper airplanes,
+ Physics of jet propulsion,
+ Amusement park physics which will include a trip to Frontier City in Oklahoma City.
Participation in the academy is free to Oklahoma Residents and is supported through a grant from the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education.
Science is fun. Science is curiosity. We all have natural curiosity. Science is a process of investigating. It's posing questions and coming up with a method. It's delving in.
